DJCC Dallas Winspear Opera House Tour

The have been a member of the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce for over six years now and we always do new and fun events. At this event we got a private tour of the Dallas Winspear Opera House in Dallas TX. Designed by Foster + Partners under Pritzker Prize-winning architect Norman Foster, the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House will be engineered specifically for performances of opera and musical theatre with its stages equipped for performances of ballet and other forms of dance.

We also walked across the street to the Dee And Charles Wyly Theater The Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre will be one of the world’s most innovative theatre facilities. The 12-level building will feature a groundbreaking design with an unprecedented “stacked,” vertically organized facility that completely rethinks the traditional form of theatre. The Wyly Theatre was designed by REX/OMA, Joshua Prince-Ramus (partner in charge) and Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rem Koolhaas.

2010 Army Aviation Convention

I was lucky enough to have some really fancy friends that were able to get me and my camera into to 2010 Army Aviation Convention that was not open to the public. This was a really fun event and I really enjoyed seeing everything there that the Army could possible want to buy. I even got in trouble a few time for taking pictures of things I was not suppose to. Ooops!! he he. Here are a few pictures I did get away with and the rest are here!

WPPI Convention in Las Vegas 2010

This was my first year to WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International), which occurs right before wedding season each year. I am not an official wedding photographer, but my friend Brittany of Brittany Nichole Photography (awesome wedding photographer by the way) is and I decided to go with her to this convention. While there I was able to a see and touch all the new albums, prints, and techniques as well as here a lot of great speakers.

Monday through Wednesday was the actual conference, which was a ton of classes and the tradeshow. The classes were great and I learned a lot about marketing, lighting and photography techniques.  I also got to catch up with a few of my favorite photographers (Christy Penn, David Edmonson, and  Luke Edmonson, for example).

Here are a few pictures from the event. The rest can be found at my site: thomasgarzaphotography.com

Dallas Junior Chamber Wine Tasting 2010 Event

Being a part of the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce for the past 6 years has been a huge learning experience for me.  Over the years I have been on the board and held other key roles in the organization. This organization is just like running a small business with nothing but volunteers. It takes motivating people and not demanding to get things done, probably how most business should be run. This year I got the privilege to be the photographer for our annual wine tasting event. The wine tasting raises money for our annual Easter Egg Hunt for the Blind event. So before you run off and think we are crazy I should tell you the Easter Eggs beep. The kids can actually hear them and can find them through sound. It’s a really great event and the families love it.  Please come out and support it this year. Here are some pictures from the event and here is the link to my picture site.  ThomasGarzaPhotography.com

Snow in Dallas

The day we got record snow here in Dallas, I took off work early. I then called a close friend of mine and we shot at Reverschon Park in Uptown Dallas. Fortunately I had an umbrella because it was snowing pretty hard and we had all of our camera equipment with us. One of us ended up holding the umbrella while the other one shot.  This worked out great and was tons of fun! We shot for several hours until we were too cold and I busted my butt on a slick bridge. We figured it was time to go in and warm up. These HDR pictures look good but it was snowing way too hard.  I might go on a nice sunny day and re-shoot these because I love the location. The rest of the non-HDR pictures are here! http://tgarza.smugmug.com/ Enjoy and comment!
